General Information
Officially the Republic of Ghana, Ghana is a multinational state, home to a variety of ethnic, linguistic, and religious groups; Most of the population is Christian (71.2%), with close to a fifth being Muslim and a tenth practising traditional faiths or reporting no religion with over thirty-one million people, Ghana is the second most populated country in West Africa, after Nigeria. Gold, cocoa and more recently oil form the cornerstone of Ghana’s economy and have helped fuel an economic boom. The country is named after the great medieval trading empire that was located northwest of the modern-day state until its demise in the 13th century. Tourism is another growing industry to Ghana with most tourist arriving from Europe and Asia. Ghana’s palm-lined sandy beaches, caves, waterfalls, castles, forts, UNESCO world heritage sites and national Parks the major attractions.
